“Lettin’ Loose” is one of the better ones I’ve seen.

I’ve been pretty disappointed by “adventure” video’s, save the fred bear series.

I haven’t tried some of the other oldies, but that would be my inclination.

I know you said you weren’t interested in instructional video’s, but “Hunting the Bamboo Backed Bow” is one I have watched many times. Dean Torges seems like he would be an interesting guy to get to know.

I think it is called 700 miles alone. It isn’t an archery show but it is a very good look at a DIY solo rafting hunt in Alaska. I’ll find the box my wife hid them in and let you know for sure on the title and a few others I can remember the name of.

I agree, 700 miles alone is great. Also, Pure Bowhunting is good, as well as Paul Brunner’s Archery Elk: The dream Hunt

The full name is Alaska adventures 700 miles alone.

Another one I liked was “lost antlers” it is about a modern day mountain man hunting moose for his winter meat.

There’s a great film by Dick Proenneke called Alone in the Wilderness. Not about archery, but about a man who moved to Alaska, built a cabin and lived alone for 30 years. He filmed the building of the cabin and his lifestyle with a 16 mm movie camera. PBS aired it as a promotion and you can purchase it through them. Neat stuff. dwc

I’d have to put a “2nd” on the Lettin’ loose-A season with the longbow” video by Doug Schlabach. A good video that is down-to-earth hunting, like you or I would do. Turkeys, whitetails a plenty and elk.

If I picked a 2nd should-have I’d say pick up Masters of the Barebow 3 (about shooting form).

“Bowhunting Reflections” by Steve Gorr, Fred Anderson and friends is also good. Lighthearted and fun, but with some good hunting as well. Looking forward to checking out their new one “Pure Bowhunting.”

“Instinct” is also a fun, well-done trad bow video done by two Hawaiian guys. Lots of DIY hunting on the islands.

I would have to second David’s reccomendation The book is also a great read .I have both the book and video

ALONE IN THE WILDERNESS

I 2nd that recommendation ~ outstanding film! And to think he started that adventure at age 51 to boot! He finally had to call it quits when he turned 87… he said his old body couldn’t take the cold any more. 😆

He “gave” his home to the state, with one caveat, they had to preserve it just as he left it so future generations could see how it was done. He built everything… and I mean everything inside and out of his place. He hunted what he needed for meat, caught & smoked fish, and even used wolf kills as a food source.

In my dream world, I’d love to trade places with him… except for the being “alone” part. Nothing better than sharing life with than a wonderful wife… and mine after 38 years fits that bill. 😉

Anyone here ever seen a documentary called “Alone In The Wilderness” ? Its about a fellow named Dick Preonneke (not sure if I spelled that right) Its not really a bowhunting video but it is a very compelling film about how this man survived all alone in the wilds of Alaska with only a few basic hand tools and supplies. He builds himself a log cabin by hand and lives much like a pioneer settler would have but he films it all himself over the course of years. I highly recommend watching this one. A great adventure !!
