Mine is the transliterated word for “frog” in Russian. I was born in the former Soviet Union and still speak the language. I like frogs, though there are some species of toads I could do without 😕 . I tried to write the word in Cyrilic in another post, but it didn’t work. So I just included it in a picture 😀 . Good thread, I often wondered the same thing. Be well.

R2 is easier than going to the character map and copy and pasting the ² symbol for R² which was my trademark among the engineers and draftsman I was involved with during my wiring career with the power company here. The 2 R’s for my first and last name.

Goraidh was a Norse King who ruled the north of Scotland. It’s hinted that the name “Goraidh” is the ancient ancestor of my name, Jeff.

Which reminds me, one of my “bucket list” items is learning to blacksmith. I’ve always been fascinated by it, just haven’t found the time. And I figure I owe it to my ancestors. 😉

Mine came about the hard way. In November of 94 I had a tree step fail and fell out of my tree and shattered my right ankle. Ever since I have done the Tree Stand safety portion of our NBEF classes. I one of the people that took the class could not remember my name when we ran into each other at a sport show. He introduced me to his friend as The Fallguy.

“Stumpkiller” is a camp name that come from a canoe-in bowhunt where we would meet at lunchtime and eat and then do a bit of roving. I liked the stump shooting as much or more than the hunting and got to be somewhat notorious for “delaying” hunting for an excuse to stump shoot. My mentor was a fantsatic shot (former NYS Champion archer) and, after a 80 yard shot that I connected and he (rare) missed he said: “C’mon “Stumpkiller”, lets go hunting”. The label stuck and I have gone by that on bowhunting and muzzleloading forums ever since.

I miss him greatly.

Great thread! It made me think my TBMADMIN was too stuffy. Dave lovingly coined the phrase “Webmother” when we first started the forums, and I like it. Much more casual, which is what we are all about. So today I changed my user name.

I enjoy all the great conversations, and I try to stay out of your way unless you need help in a motherly way 😀 but rest assured I have eyes in the back of my head and I’m reading every post. 8)

My screen name is from one of my other passions downhill skiing, that I used to race and coach racing in. Still get as excited for a fresh day of powder as for an elk hunt.

Mine is the result of a German farmer stepping off the boat in 1861 and deciding to change the spelling of his last name. He should have just put a “t” in there too. Everyone else does. 🙂

I chose mine tradhunter1 not for hunting with traditional archery gear alone, but because my ethics, morals, beliefs and technics always seem to fall on the traditional side of thought and process “according to today’s society”, the hunter part was chosen due to the fact that when I’m in the woods or fields hunting I feel so much more in tune with all around me and it seems to free my mind to contemplate my life and put things in the right perspective.

There also seems to be an awfull lot of Troys around.

Goraidh, I was trying to figure out your username as it has a Gaelic spelling but wasn’t a word I knew. Makes sense now, old Scots Gaelic I’d say, I wouldn’t think it’s Norse.

Alex Bugnon… That’s my name. I sometimes reversed it on other people recordings (CD’s), if I wanted to keep my appearance anonymous. So if you ever come across the very exotic name Xela Nongub in the back of a CD, that’s me! 😀

As far as Bugnon goes, I don’t know… French-Swiss for sure, Celtic maybe ( my village of origin sits 10 miles away from La Tene, Switzerland, the site of the some of the oldest Celtic artifacts ever found, I think.)

The guys I used to work with called me “gorilla belly” probably because of my kind and temperate nature. I chose to use my own name cause I don’t forget it too often …yet.

Well i look like santa my hair and beard is white . In december i am busyyyy, and my off seson i let my beard grow long. Most everone calls me santa most of the time,a lot of people only know me buy santa.I do get some that call me hillbilly. spend time in the hills and tide land trapping.Some time i look like i come out of the hills. I work for a cannery in WI. This keeps me very busy from June through September.

Mine’s straight forward. My initials and what my art and occupation is about. My fingers just seem to know my initials better on the keyboard than my whole name. I do add my website to my posts, because, as I think it was Dave P. who said, we need to stand by ( or fall by ) with our words and opinions. It makes you think before you write. I’m convinced it’s a downfall of the mainstream news industry to publish opinions from anonymous voices. In the case of this forum, it’s not so bad as Webmother keeps us in line!

My screen name is what they called outlaws in”Robin Hood” times and area. I have a little Irish-Scottish, European as well as a drop of Native American. Add a little this and that and I decided to use Wolfshead. I painted my avatar and decided to give it a little Native twist to an old Europe term.

Michael Scott….no, not the character off of The Office, and no, not the old time New York Mets/Houston Astros’ pitcher, either…LOL!! Though I wouldn’t mind having some of the money I’m sure they made. Nope….I used to go by Montana Ford on here…why, because I’m from Montana, and I’m a Ford fan. Now, I go by my real name because, as Dave pointed out when I first “rejoined” the forums earlier this year, it is simply EASIER to remember. And ya know what? He was right. It is easy. And it’s straight forward, too. Nothin real fancy…just me…at my best (or worst) depending what your view is…LOL!

Mine is the short version of a nickname and long last name. Joseph is my real name, but for some reason I have been called “Jody” by my family all of my life. Last name is Smotherman (a change in spelling by English ancestors when they came to the US; it was Smitherman…just like Jason W mentioned his ancestors changing their spelling once they came to the US). JodyS is the short handle for a mutt who is an English, Irish, Native-American pharmacist, father of three, and rookie writer from the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas.

For reasons related to caller ID, my buddies call me “Jose.” When I call someone, the caller ID shortens my name to “Smotherman, Jose.” 😀

Duncan, my real name, descended from MacRaes is Scottish and gaelic in origin-“Donacaid” meaning “Browned Warrior” (may be some other spellings).

I’m from a long line of Scots mixed in with a few English, Irish, maybe some German and there is rumored that there may be a native Tuscarora in the wood pile somewhere. This occured after the first MacRaes arrived in the Cape Fear Valley in the late 1700’s here in NC. Before that the clan and various highland clans were made up of various invading tribes mixed with the indigenous peoples. The English side of me is made up of invading Norman that ruled England for a time and can be traced back to other Germanic tribes.

I’m no expert on this but it is interesting stuff and love to hear other peoples opinions on it.
