I don’t know of any paleo. Crossbows seem a more likely tool, but even then I can’t really imagine any application for them.
-
Crossbows were used in Vietnam, to some degree, but with the current availability of sub sonic ammo and the very effective suppressors out now, the special ops guys carry that instead. You can carry a weapon like the 300 AAC Blackout and have both sub and supersonic ammo, and use it from the same gun depending on mission needs.
So, no, I can’t see a good use for them today.

Not since this guy:
“On the 27th of May 1940, whilst in command of a mixed force holding the village of L’Epinette, near Bethune, during the retreat to Dunkirk, Captain Churchill, who had been slightly wounded on the 25th, became the only European for centuries who, in the action of war, had killed an enemy with the longbow. Climbing into the loft of a small granary, through a vertical opening in one wall, normally used for hauling up sacks of grain, he saw, some thirty yards away, five German soldiers sheltering behind the wall but in clear view of the granary. Quickly and quietly Captain Churchill fetched up two infantrymen and instructed them to open rapid fire on the enemy but not to pull the trigger until he had loosed his bow, took careful aim and loosed the shaft. At the same time as the bow string twanged, the air was shattered by the rapid fire of the two infantrymen. Captain Churchill was delighted to see his strike the centre German in the left of the chest and penetrate his body; the remaining Germans of the party slumped to the dusty ground… Five years before the first atomic bomb exploded and nearly 600 years after the Battle of Crécy an English archer had incongruously and briefly returned to the ancient battlefields of France.”

🙄 Officers 🙄

Two4 … is there a story with the photo? Seems like a bit of WP would be more effective to burn down the jungle than a flaming arrow … but not as cool, of course.
Jim — Having been both, I am impervious to your insults! 😆

I don’t know Dave……Just came across that photo on the net and thought it was cool enough to save.

Haha Dave, I expected Mike to jump in first on that 😀 Pilots are basically one of the boys. I’ve jumped in the back of a blackhawk and the whole section’s been dealt out muffins by the crewy, courtesy of the pilot. I’ve never come back from a job and had a Colonel give me a muffin though 😉

Yep, one of the boys. Too much so, some seniors at the time thought. In fact I’m lucky I’m not in Leavenworth. 😆
While you won’t get any muffins from ColMike, if you ever meet I guarantee you’ll have to beg him to stop pouring the high-end spirits. He is definitely one of the boys these days and a superstar commander with “his boys” back in the day.

I don’t doubt for a second that Mike and I would get on like a wildfire 😉

Actually I just ignored that mindless prattle from Jim figured he had been drinking some of that kangaroo piss that passes for beer down there:D
Dave- I spent a year in Leavenworth! Got away with being AWOL for 3 days–it was the opening of deer season. Then they asked me to organize a golf tournament for my study group. Rules were simple 2 per golf cart, 1 club, 1 case of beer. You couldn’t get out of the cart–sort of a mechanized training exercise. MP’s got us at about the 6th green–couple of turned over carts torn up grass and only 3 had to go to sick bay. The commanding generals comment was “what genius put the Marine in charge” and a couple hundred bucks from us all for damages8).
Look forward to a visit from AusJim.
Mike
