        I have read all the Ashy stuff but I can’t remember. Is the turbulator supposed to get rid of a barrel roll? I have detected a barrel roll especially with a bh if my release isn’t spot on. I am shooting 350 up front on a 300 spine shaft at 53#. it seems really stiff but everything else shows weak Everytime. I draw 32″. FYI.

          The turbulator is intended to induce turbulent flow as the air crosses the fletching. Turbulent flow has a lower drag coefficient and allows the fletching to more easily steer the arrow. It also quiets the arrow down.

          You should bare shaft tune your carbon arrows to correct their flight. If the arrow is weak, you can reduce weight up front, or cut the arrow shorter to stiffen it. You could also add some material to the side plate and see if that helps.

          When I was using turbulators, I just cut thin strips of duct tape and wrapped that around the arrow. It worked fine.

          Bottom line is that they will do nothing to help you achieve good arrow flight.

            Thanks Steve,

            It is tough to tune because I cant cut any arrow off. Brace height, string material and moving my silencers hasn’t really changed anything and I am afraid if i build my strike plate out it will only make it worse. I am hitting right but I think the shaft is to stiff. I think the rear end of my shaft is hitting the strike plate and kicking it to the left(impacting right). I am already really heavy up front but I guess I could go up to 400grains and see what happens. I tried CE 250 and 350 and couldnt get them to fly as well as my current set up with any weight. I will try more weight up front and see if it is more forgiving. As long as my release is good it flys great. Anyway thanks again

              You can temporally build the side plate out by using layers of tape. If the rear of the shaft is striking the side plate it may be giving you a false spine reading.

                Ed, I think the shaft is hitting the strike plate and giving me a false reading. Won’t building it out make it worse? Thanks for your input

                  If the dynamic spine is truly ‘stiff’ then, yes, building the side plate out will make it worse. If, however, you are getting a false ‘stiff spine’ because of the shaft impacting with the side plate building the side plate out will improve the dynamic spine. Temporarily building the side plate out with tape is a fast way to fine out what’s really going on.

                    Ok I got you now. Last night I had a moment to shoot again and the bare shafts were impacting with the fletched ones but I could see they were flying tail left.i don’t think there is anyway that shaft is actually weak. The bow is only 53#. I will build the side plate out and see what happens. Thanks again

                      DK, all it takes sometimes is something as small as toothpick size. I quite often use a piece of a zip tie under Velcro on my bows. Popsicle stick works but with those I modify, like whittle down or “try” to split them in half. Not so simple to do that sometimes:D

                        thanks R2 I think i will go with a toothpick under some blue painters tape. Easy to remove. If it works I will build it out with some velcro. It is flying pretty good I think the main problem is my release. I have not control over my hand sometimes.

                          Alright, I stuck a piece of #14 bare copper wire under a calf hair strike plate and I think I am good to go. At first my BH flight was great but it was impacting to the left. After several shots my brain brought it to the middle and my flight is still great. I guess that shaft was actually weak, I never would have guessed that.
