LOVE my kayak(14ft freedom hawk, stand-up fishing kayak), best money I’ve ever spent(being towed toward open ocean off of Rhode Island by a monster Striped bass(52lbs) was a high-light on a flyrod hehehe…)

I have never hunted from a kayak, but from a canoe I took no special precautions, besides a trip to a carwash to rinse saltwater off kayak on the way home, and the sink at home to rinse gear…

I’ve hunted from a canoe many times. Been more worried about dinging the bow up on the canoe/rocks than worried about it getting wet.

My bows seem to get soaked in saltwater every time we go back and forth from blackbeard island. I always just rinse them off with freshwater and then flush the fletchings and shoot the bow a few times to dry out and “re-puff” my silencers.

I have a canoe but have yet to use it . But , I also built a steel frame across the bed of my old truck for carrying my recurve. The steel frame stays in the bed and the bow is placed in an oak cradle that attaches in about one minute by use of a 1.5 inch square plate and wingnuts on a permanent stud .

Now I have the canoe set up to use the same cradle to prevent my bow from being damaged .

The cradle mounts and removes in seconds and is presently holding the bow in the house ,,on a dresser .

Oak , woods screws , glue and self adhesive felt padding in the cradle cut outs to prevent marring the riser .

If it can tip over/capsize I will do it. I learned a few lessons duck hunting in a boat.

1 if it doesn’t float tie to something that does

2 if there’s a current or it’s a long transport-more than 10 minutes- tie every thing together so when you find it again it’s all together.

3 crazy friend and friends crazy untrained dog are not allowed in my boat with me any more.

4 Wear life jackets when transporting from dock to hunting site.

I just adjust the above to fit bow hunting and canoeing

Sounds like a great adventure AusJim… Maybe a light coating of Wd-40 or other light-weight oil would keep the rust at bay for a few days???… You need to aim lower at your target when bow-fishing due to refraction…

Camel is delish, had a feast after some training, the young camel that showed-up in the back of a truck as the ‘guest of honor” for our feast wasnt impressed as us though…

(Also learned about “baboon relocation” on that trip… Baboons are destructive critters and some cultures wont kill them, so to remove a pack of Baboons they would capture one, paint him in gold paint(I guess any color would work) and release him to re-join the pack. Since they are a social animal they will try to RV with the pack and the others are so spooked they run off, 20-30miles or untill the paint wears-off and the baboons are then someone elses problem…hehehe)

Jim, sounds like a good way to spend christmas, you obviously avoided the salties.

I second WD40 it will allow you to keep the internal threads free from rust.
