My luck is improving some. I made one of those Torges Tree seats and decided to try it out where I’ve seen alot of squirrels running. Missed my first opportunity because I was just enjoying the day and I guess I was daydreaming when a fat one came within 12 yds. Was not ready.
The Tree seat
Then 2 started chasing each other around and ended up about 12 yds in front of me. Missed the chaser and the chasee went up the nearest tree. In a few moments it came down and I scored.
Later another came down the hill to bury a nut and I missed it at 12 or so yds. Overall there was at least a limit of them all around me. And the seat was surprisingly comfortable with no padding but I’m going to add some foam to it.

Hey Dunc, you gotta watch out for those comfy seats …. ZZZZzzzz … 😛
From the way you’re dressed it’s still a LOT warmer there than here in the Rockies.
I wish we had edible squirrels here, but by my tastes we don’t. On a recent WT hunt in Arkie, I watched lots of gray and giant fox squirrels, so far superior to our little pine varieties here in that they don’t seem to scold so much and they’re great to eat. Along with upland game birds, particularly bobwhites, I really miss not having squirrels here. We can hunt elk only one month a year …
Looks like a good head shot there! Dave

The low of about 32 this morning is probably shirt sleeve weather to alot of you guys. Yeah, I was OK in a heavy flannel shirt this afternoon. Probably hit 70 tomorrow.
Rubber blunt at 12 yds. They can’t stand much of that. I’ve got some Hex heads and Game Nabbers for longer shots.

Duncan – Way to go! I think Torges has a hinged version of that seat too… did you consider that?
Dave – I have eaten your squirrels… I thought they held at least 1 advantage over our greys in that they are easy to skin, like a rabbit! I made a pot of squirrel stew from your squirrels while on an elk trip. I shot an elk on the first morning (yea, i am not shy about shooting the first one I see if the situation calls for it – no apologies.) and spent the next few days collecting squirrels. After a week of freeze dried meals, that squirrel stew made everybody smile!
We make do with carolina deer and don’t complain. I bet if you try it you can make do with colorado squirrel…

Rip,
That is an awesome squirrel! I’ve seen some black ones in Maryland and in DC but they were not as fat as that one. Good shot!

Hope to get out some later this week. Christmas shopping all done, most of the family get togethers behind me. Just me and the family this weekend on Christmas. Off work Thurs thru Mon. Should be able to go. I’m hoping it won’t rain too much.

Nice job on those squirrels. I have yet to conect myself. I’m wondering if you have plans for that seat still. I had the link but seem to have lost it. Anyone? Thanks.
