Since my go-to tournaments have been canceled or postponed and I seem to have more time on my hands, I decided to put in a broadhead sand pit.
Believing that anything worth doing is worth over-doing I got a bit carried away with the size but once I get the sand hauled it’s gonna be awesome.
Basic construction involves blocks that Home Depot carries to build composting pits and 2x 4-6-or 8s. It can pretty much be whatever size one wants. Leave the front open and add clean fill dirt or sand from the wash behind the house.
More work than I had planned on but the difference is knowing that my broadheads fly dead on and KNOWING that they fly dead on.

Good idea. send some pics of the finished set up and shooting in to it —
I am interested in building one – most of the methods i have used beat the tgts up quick ( expensive). I periodically shoot broadheads into old tgt material – and I have a light bhead transportable version I take hunting

Hey Richard
How is your broadhead sand pit coming along ?

Well …………………. I made the thing about 4 foot by four foot on three sides with the front open. Should have put re-bar down the centers of the compost blocks as everything spread out a bit as I added sand. (Takes a LOT of sand). Got everything braced up and am quite happy with the result. I can shoot my 3D targets and step over and let a couple of broadheads fly.
Since it’s sifted beach type sand from a sand wash I can shoot my actual hunting arrows a couple of times, put the file to them and good to go with a quiver full of arrows that I KNOW fly true.

Sounds like the perfect set up . I shoot my hunting arrows periodically into old target batten/ scraps, to ensure they are flying true . Well done.
Send a couple pics if you can.
