Ok …………….. Admittedly if it’s weird or off the wall it’s either happened to me or is about to.

I have one of those spiffy little compasses that fit on a watch band or my arm guard.  Very handy except that I tend to use a warm weather arm guard and a cold weather one adjusted for heavier cloths.  Simple solution, either put a compass on both arm guards or put one on my shooting glove.  I went with the glove.

My glove; Nothing special. Neet three finger glove modified with the fingers adjustable with Velcro.  Oiled up with Neat’s foot oil.

Now for the weird stuff; About fifty shots and the compass on my glove reverse’s polarity.  Now the sun’s coming up in the west. Never had this happen when the compass was on the arm guard.   Thinking that I had a defective compass, I swapped it out for a new one. Same result. Being a slow learner, ……………. I now have three compasses that are 180* off.

Glad that I realized something was off before I used it out in the field  ’cause I’ve always been taught ‘trust your compass’.

I’m guessing that something about nylon string serving on the glove leather is putting static electricity to the magnetic compass causing it to fail ????  Anybody else run into this ?????  Thoughts or comments ????

          Richard

          New one on me.

I have used the wrist band compasses ( still do ) but have not had a problem. Did you have problems with the same brand ? Bad batch ? Now made in ?

I use a suunto on my weak wrist. Had good luck with them

One of the things that can cause problems is some knife scabbards now have magnets to help hold the knife in.  If near the compass —–

Three different brands and no magnets anywhere near.

I would say perhaps it’s due to a magnetic personality but that might lead one’s direction in life astray as would a compass in reverse tend to lead one down a wrong path. Either path in the wrong direction could be problematic.

If you keep shooting will it reverse again back to normal?

Now to analyze further……………wood arrows, carbon arrows, aluminum arrows? :-))))

Have your target points become magnetized?  ;-))

                    2213s

                    145 grains w/three 5 grain brass washers & a 40 grain insert.  60# @ 28. I draw a bit less.

Target points show no magnetic  properties.

Don’t know it continued shooting would reverse anything. A compass that can’t be trusted is about as useless as something can be.

Maybe it thinks it’s still in China.

“If you keep shooting will it reverse again back to normal?” Ha, David! Or perhaps shoot the course in reverse direction?

That’s quite bizarre. I think we need a NASA scientist to comment on this one…..

Or you could hunt in Eastern Pa where it’s harder to get lost. You just listen for the closest interstate highway to orient yourself, ha!

Ironic that you should mention that. We’re a bit more rural here in Az. but one time I did manage to get un-disoriented in the fog from the sound of a pick-up going over a cattle guard off in the distance.

I read, if lost, go downhill, eventually lead one to water. Follow water downstream, eventually lead to civilization….

                                  Really…………………………..

                                  :-))))

Seems like whenever I take a shortcut downhill it either involves a sheer cliff or whitewater.
