its been a long winter so I started twisting a new string. I done this before and I have Conrads book , looked at videos and so on . My problem is that when I go to put the string on the bow both ends unravel . I understand the problem but can’t remember how to resolve it ?

It sounds like you didn’t twist the bundles and string in opposite directions. And or didn’t twist the string up before bracing the bow. After the string is made, you need to put a bunch of twists in the string as a whole.

I make strings like this, old fashioned but so am I. Old anyway..far from fashionable:-)) All I need is string material, two nails, a ruler or old string.
It may take a little experimentation but I think it explanatory enough that maybe you can see why your twist are undoing.
Like you gotta have twists in your string bundles……Like Steve be sayin’…

I twist my bundles then I decide which is top and bottom then I put the bigger loop on a nail and twist the bottom a bunch of twist and the string unravels . This has happened before but always figure it out . Maybe I need to put the loops in my hands and twist opposite the both ends. I will be back at it on the morrow after work. Ive tied a dozen strings but fighting with this one

You have to twist the string in the same direction that you twisted the loops. Sounds like you twisted the string in the wrong direction.
The way you can tell which direction is correct is to hold an inch of the loop between your fingers and twist it while looking closely at it. If the twists open up, it’s the wrong direction. If the twists tighten up, its the right direction.

yippee I did it and it came out well on a Bear black bear 8 1/2 brace then I did a bear polar and it’s a 65″ bow recurve and I could not string it . Then I did a Damon Howatt diablo and had a heck of a time stringing that but got it with a 8″ brace . I am a longbow man so am I just not used to stringing curves ? I am using a Selway stringer and using a 81/2 brace on the curves as a starting point maybe thats too much ? I will search on the computer to see what the brace hgts should be ?
